Daisy the Great took the stage at Valley Bar for the first time ever. "It's our first time in Phoenix!" Mina Walker told the crowd. It was a warm Saturday night after a couple of days full of rain. The statement was met with warmer applause that never really died down throughout the night. The night was luminous. Nothing short of a joy-filled set that showcased the Brooklyn-based band. Highlighting their signature blend of ethereal harmonies, and emotional connection that permeated every song.

Fronted by the vocal and songwriting duo of Kelley Nicole Dugan and Mina Walker. Daisy the Great has long carved a lane for themselves with intimate, dreamy indie pop storytelling. Their songs often feel like they’re whispering secrets, only to erupt into full-body anthems that demand to be danced to. Their performance in Phoenix was a much needed cathartic experience.

Touring in support of their latest album, Rubber Teeth Talk, the band delivered a seventeen-song set. Tracks like "Dream Song" and "Rest Of My Life" displayed their gift for poetic lyrics. Paired with layered hypnotic instrumentation. Their sound is lush but never overworked. Sometimes ethereal. Sometimes punchy. There are echoes of theatrical pop, alt-folk. Though the ultimate magic is spun through Daisy the Great’s harmonies.

Mary’s At The Carnival,” started with a haunting stillness. I personally felt lulled in a beautiful state. Absolutely soothed, and fixated on nothing but the duo. Kelley and Mina’s vocals floating over stripped-down guitar and soft keys. The song's surreal beauty hung in the air before melting into the explosive opening riff of “Glitter.” That transition was electric. Shoulders started swaying. Hips began twisting, and the whole crowd lit up. Other highlights included a dreamy cover of Suzanne Vega’sTom’s Diner.” “Persephone” and “Bird Bones” brought in a mystical energy. “The Record Player Song” was greeted loudly.
The band spoke candidly about a recent setback. Their tour van was broken into, and much of their gear was stolen. They shared gratitude for the fans who rallied. Many donated, and made it possible for the tour to go on. “We couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you for helping out, and coming to the show.” Mina said. With much appreciation, and love, the community came together. There was so much connection between the band, and the fans that filled the room. It may have been Daisy the Great’s first time in the city, but surely won’t be their last.
